 The Opportunity Cost of 2.5 Million Years Without Religion

Humanity (stalled by the idiocy of religion—the playground of "ghosts and gods") should have secured its survival and expanded its living space at least a million years ago. By now, we should have achieved immortality through the technologies gained from planetary migration. Instead, we have squandered far too much time.

If Homo sapiens had poured their innate survival instincts and thirst for conquest solely into technological evolution—rather than wasting energy on the illusions of religion—our civilization would be on an entirely different plane today. Considering the opportunity cost of these "2.5 million years without religion," here is the reality:

Planetary Migration One Million Years Ago
If humanity had moved beyond simple tool use to rational cooperation and scientific inquiry during the Paleolithic era (a term I use strictly according to the current classification, which is itself tainted by "ghosts and gods"), we would have expanded into deep space long ago. We wouldn't have been trapped in this cramped cradle called Earth, killing one another.

To suppress the genocidal instinct of Homo sapiens—the urge to destroy anything "different"—we must expand into a much broader living space.

(To put it in the most comfortable tongue of my hometown, Busan: "If we aren't bumping into each other, we won't fight." If I were to write this in the stiff Seoul dialect, my brain would freeze up.)

Homo sapiens are capable of embracing "difference" only when there is an abundance of living space. Therefore, there is no place better than the vastness of the universe—or even the multiverse—to ensure peaceful survival without triggering those genocidal instincts.

Immortality
Instead of the fake "afterlife" promised by religion—a place you supposedly go only after death—if we had gone all-in on genetic engineering and mechanization to overcome biological limits, we would likely have solved the "evolutionary defect" called death by now.
The population of Planet Earth should be at least 20 billion. Furthermore, if immortal humans inhabited planets across hundreds of billions of galaxies, a population in the hundreds of billions or even "Muryang-daesu" (infinite) scales would not be impossible. Humanity could have possessed actual, technological immortality, but we were deceived by the fake immortality of religion and wasted 2.5 million years entirely. The current civilization of 8 billion people is pathetically backward compared to where we should have been.
In the end, religion—this game of ghosts and gods—is the repeated choice made by a genocidal species destined for extinction.
